My dream job

 Ok, I’ll start by saying that I love my job as a teacher of English and feel lucky to get paid for doing it.

Having said that, my dream job would be as a restorer of classic cars. I love the way they look, sound, smell and move. Those awesome machines full of lights to turn on, buttons to push and levers to pull fill me with joy, and they can be relatively practical too!



The process of bringing them back to their glory days is fascinating. When you see them in perfect condition, it’s like a window into the past.



I also love learning about their historical context and about the people who drove them when they were new. There’s no elderly person I won’t ask about the car they drove when they were young. Sometimes, they think that’s an odd question, but they usually tell me some interesting story.

 


Also, if you’re good at it, you can make a decent living.

I don’t have enough skills as a mechanic, though. I should take a course or enroll in a night school program and become a certified mechanic. But then, when would I teach?

Here’s a picture of the last old car I had. Oh, how I miss it...

    I really like the "style" that the old cars have, I think it's unique. In the case of the modern cars I find their design are boring.

    That's such a cool dream job. Car restoration is a wholesome process, you would be literally "bringing back to life" with your own hands those classic and beautiful cars.

    Sounds very interesting, classic cars have a lot of history. I think it's an amazing job if you can learn more on it.

    Maybe now seems a little difficult to achieve that dream but nobody knows what the future will bring, perhaps in those times you'll be able to fulfill your dream job!

    I think it's interesting to restore old things, not just cars. Well, it allows us, in some way, to know the stories of the past and travel to them. I think you have to have a lot of patience to be able to do it.

    How interesting! althougth i don't know anything about cars I think that job should be really hard but entertaining at the same time to be able to bring an old car back to life.

  Cuba. That's where I'd love to go. The old cities, the buildings, the cars, the beaches... It all sparks my imagination. On my first day in Havana, I'd buy a nice guayabera so  I can feel part of the place and not look so much like a tourist! (But I think all tourists wear guayaberas...)  What I'd love to see there is that great mixture of Spanish colonial buildings, American mid-century architecture and Soviet-style buildings. I think all of that makes for one of the most special cities in the world.  The times around the Revolution are particularly interesting to me , and there’s a lot I should learn about it. It was one of the most important events in the history of the 20 th  century and I’d like to get a closer idea of what it was like. Listening to some Cuban jazz is high on my list. That piano... It is one of the coolest in the universe, if you ask me. Oh, and don’t get me started on the old cars around…

  Time travel to the past or future At first I thought that I’d like to travel to the past, as I’m a nostalgic guy who loves his Beatles and ’67 Ford Mustangs. But then I started thinking about the state of things in the present and was intrigued by what lies ahead for us. Will we ever realize we’re heading straight for the abyss? Will we be able to solve global warming? Will we need to leave Earth and find some other planet to start our lives again? And another scary thought: will AI take over control of the world eventually? I must admit I’m quite pessimistic about the whole thing. We need a paradigm shift to start doing things differently, but that doesn’t seem to be round the corner. On the other hand, I have faith in young people. They’re starting to see things differently from my generation and those before. It won’t be easy because reactions against new ways of doing things are going to be strong. Too many people will lose money and privileges if the status quo is disturbed....
